COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE

My husband, Seth, and I chose to raise our family in Encinitas with the local public-school systems at the forefront of our decision-making. While EUSD is home to outstanding educators, the past handful of years have been challenging for schools. Serving as school board trustee presents an opportunity to effect positive change and provide vital support where decisions are made. If elected, I am committed to promoting academic excellence, partnering with families, and championing educators.

As the daughter of an immigrant from Latin America, I witnessed the benefits of my father receiving an education in a public-school system focused on academic achievement. My father’s high school math teacher had a long-lasting impact on my father’s career, inspiring him to become a high school teacher before pursuing his life-long dream of becoming a physician.

My diverse international experience and volunteer work have equipped me with a unique perspective I will bring to the district. When I was a child, my family moved to Guadalajara, Mexico for my early elementary years. I learned first-hand about the challenges of navigating school in a new language. As a college student, I studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain. I also volunteered on a medical mission to Nebaj, Guatemala working as a translator. (My Guatemalan volunteer partner translated Quechua to Spanish and I translated Spanish to English!) After graduating from UCLA, I studied for a year at the University of Auckland, New Zealand as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar of Goodwill. (Thank you, Rotary!)

As a district parent, I have been very involved in my children’s education, volunteering in the classroom, on the PTA Board, and on the School Site Council. These experiences have given me valuable insight into the needs of our students and how we can best support our teachers. I have also had the opportunity to teach Spanish language and culture lessons to first graders, truly coming full circle in my elementary school experience! This year I am excited to serve as the new English Learners Advisory Committee (ELAC) Liaison for the Ocean Knoll PTA Board.
